Make your Table, Sustainable

Posted on April 13, 2018

If you've followed Green Calgary for a while, you've probably heard a lot of talk about your food. That's because Green Calgary is dedicated to educating, inspiring, and empowering Calgarians to live more sustainably, and one of the easiest ways to do that is to support sustainable eating habits. Whether it's local, organic, fair-trade, non-GMO, or any other sustainable label, you have a lot of control over what you eat. Green Calgary takes food seriously, and we hope you do, too.

That's why this year we're fundraising with SPUD. It's also because it's one of the simplest fundraisers to support. Just think, you can order a box of produce, get it delivered to your door with minimal packaging, and up to 25% is donated to Green Calgary all in one move. We asked SPUD to let you know more about them, and here's what they had to say:

Sustainable Produce Urban Delivery (SPUD) offers all the amenities of a traditional grocery store with the added convenience of online shopping and free delivery to your home or office. All of SPUD’s products are either certified organic, natural, or locally and sustainably made. SPUD believes that getting local, organic food delivered to your door is one of the easiest and most powerful ways to improve health, protect the environment, and support the local community.

Since its start in 1997, SPUD has been committed to providing simple access to real, healthy, local food. SPUD brings positive change to people’s lives by supporting sustainable food systems that grow communities, care for the earth’s natural harvest, and reduces impact on the environment. The idea of “changing the world, one bite at a time” guides every SPUD decision.

SPUD partners with vendors who care deeply about producing food and natural products that keep both consumer health and the planet’s well-being in mind. SPUD aims to foster a greater awareness about food security and traceability, and to help consumers make a big impact through the simple act of shopping for groceries.

Not content with simply supporting the little guy, SPUD also seeks to use its social networks to connect local food producers and consumers. Through social media, their own website, and grassroots information-sharing, SPUD invites customers to learn about the people who make their food and how they can support their regional food system.
