Waste It Not: A Special Thank You

Posted on October 7, 2017

On Saturday September 30th we hosted our first ever Waste it Not Workshop. Sixteen Calgarians joined us at ReMatt to work on 6 home decor projects. Together we gave a second life to a chair and a dresser.  We also created a cushion, two coffee tables, and an ottoman. We mostly used recycled materials which enabled us to divert 200 pounds of materials from the landfill. That is approximately 4 black garbage carts filled with materials!

We would like to thank our participants, volunteers, donors, supporters, friends, and family who came together to learn practical skills, save items and materials from the landfill, and connect with each other.

And a special thank you to our partners:

  • Riti Leon from HandyGirlsYYC for co-hosting this pilot workshop with us;
  • TD Friends of the Environment for their continued support of Green Calgary and for providing seed funds for this project;
  • David Wilson from Envy Eco-Focussed Environments for his generous donation of materials for this project and his expert advice;
  • Calgary Tool Library for donating a membership to their library so that we could get the tools we needed for this workshop;
  • ReMatt for providing the venue, recycled materials, and support needed to bring this new project to life.

We couldn’t have done it without you!

If you would like us to host a similar workshop in the future please comment on our Facebook or Twitter including the topic you would like us to cover (i.e. holiday decorations, electronics, clothing, other).
