Guest Post: Conor Tapp, Executive Director, Green Calgary, on his upcoming trip to Pittsburgh

In just over two weeks, I’ll be boarding a plane destined for Pittsburgh, PA. I was invited to participate in Climate Reality Leadership Corps training, and I am excited to take part. I will be in a room with people from across the globe, from all career and life backgrounds. Together we will be learning from leading scientists, communicators, and former US Vice President Al Gore.

For me, the training is an opportunity to get a solid grasp on communicating the science of climate change. I know that for many the way that the information has been presented doesn’t work. It’s too scientific, or too alarmist, or too basic. We all process information differently, and you’re not wrong if the tone of some campaigns we’ve seen in recent years hasn’t resonated with you.

But even if the campaigns we’ve seen haven’t inspired someone to take action, we cannot deny that human impacts on the earth are real. And there is a lot that we can do, and a lot that many of you are already doing, to change our impact.

I’m eager to get to Pittsburgh, to meet Al Gore, to study, and to come back to Calgary to share with you what I’ve learned.

Thank you for being a part of our Green Calgary community. Thank you for making the changes you make to lower your impact. And thank you for looking for new ways to be a steward of our earth.

Be well,

Conor
