The Calgary Horticultural Society

Have you heard about our friends at the Calgary Horticultural Society? If you are a gardener, then this is the place to be. The Calgary Horticulture Society is no slouch in the gardening world of Calgary, having just turned 115, they get what it takes to garden in Calgary’s microclimate(s). For over a century they have been cultivating a love of gardening in Calgarians with workshops, talks, garden tours, special events, and community garden programs. That is something to be proud of. With over 3500 members they are one of the largest garden organizations. Why become a member? Though there are some resources on the webpage, when you become a member you gain access to classes, events, expert engagement, member talks, networking opportunities with other gardeners, garden tours, and discounts to name a few. With a vision to “Garden for Life!” and values that include “putting the fun into gardening,” it’s the place to be if you love your yard, the environment, to talk plants, or strive for gardening excellence.
The Calgary Horticultural Society is also a partner in Green Calgary’s rain barrel sales. On Saturday June 3rd we will be part of their YardSmart festival from 10:00-2:00 with our barrels. This is an open event for everyone and hosted in partnership with the City of Calgary. This festival focuses on water-wise gardening, so if you’ve been thinking about creating a more drought resistant yard, come on down and talk to people who understand what it takes. You can also see the launch of their YardSmart Design Garden bed for Native Wildflowers at 1:00pm and hear Elaine Rude, the designer, talk about the garden and answer your questions. There will also be a gardener's market to explore. It is a good opportunity to check them out before becoming a member.
