New Year-Do Year

Posted on January 14, 2017

After the first few weeks of the New Year, we’re all still working to get things organized again after the holidays. People are cleaning, eating better, and generally following their resolutions a bit more carefully. But instead of looking to what we shouldn't be doing, stay positive! Whether you’ve decided to clean your house, your body, or your palette, make this New Year your Do Year! Here are some DOs without those nasty DON'Ts!

DO: Clean the house! Cleaning up the house is a great way to jump-start your year. Green cleaners are just as efficient as conventional ones and you don’t run the risks to your health. You can pick up green cleaning products at green stores, like yours truly, but otherwise just look for green cleaning supplies, such as AspenClean. If you’re feeling really ambitious, you can even come to one of our workshops and make some of your own!

DO: Clean yourself! Starting your day fresh helps make the year fresh. Rather than strip all the oils out of your skin with harsh detergent-based soaps, look for natural soaps. Try some organic soaps or washes from Rocky Mountain Soap Company or Neal’s Yard Remedies. Again, the ambitious greenie need look no further than our Natural Living workshop series for some tips to make your own personal care products!

DO: Clean your palette! Eating better, local food is not only better for the environment, it also tastes great! Canadian food is of very high quality, so buying local is safer, too. If you’re cooking at home, you can pick up your ingredients from a natural, local source – try out Community Natural Foods, for example – or if you go out, go to local restaurants with a green conscience, like UNA Pizza + Wine.

We hope some of these ideas inspire you to follow us in making 2017 your Do Year. Above all else, DO take care of yourself, those around you, and the planet we all share.
