City of Calgary 2026 Rain Barrel Rebate:
Open April 1 - October 31, 2026
The City of Calgary has teamed up with Green Calgary to provide Calgarians with an opportunity to receive up to $50 rebate on up to three rain barrels starting April 1 - Oct 31, 2026.
The rebate program closes on Oct 31, 2026 or until program funding runs out, whichever comes first. We advise that you submit your application as soon as possible, or before Oct 31st in order improve your chances of receiving a rebate before program funding is finished.
How the Rebate Works
What: Green Calgary will be issuing the rebates on behalf of The City of Calgary. Successful applicants will receive their rebate by e-transfer via Plooto a 3rd party payment processor, or via cheque.
When: You will receive your rebate payment within 3 months of submitting your application.
How: Calgarians purchasing rain barrels from Green Calgary, or any vendor, can submit an application form with original receipts for up to three rain barrels per household and receive up to $50 per barrel.

Are you eligible for the rebate program?
- Only City of Calgary residents are eligible for the rebate program.
Is your barrel eligible for the rebate program?
- Rain barrel must be purchased at an original sale (no resale accepted)
- Rain barrel must be for residential use only, the rain barrel must be installed at a residential/household address.
- You can submit a rebate for no more than 3 rain barrels.
Is your receipt eligible for the rebate program?
- Your receipt must be dated within 12 months of the submission date of your rebate application.
You must submit an itemized receipt or invoice for your rain barrel purchase.
Please Note: The Applicant, Rain Barrel, and Rain Barrel Receipt must all be eligible to qualify for the rebate program.

2026 REBATE FAQ
Green Calgary is a registered charity partnering with the City of Calgary to administer the 2025 Rain Barrel Rebate Program. We are responsible for application processing and approval, communication, and disbursement of rebate payments for the City of Calgary 2026 Rain Barrel Rebate program.
Green Calgary is a separate entity from the City of Calgary and has been working with the City for over 20 years by providing educational environmental sustainability programs to Calgarians. The City of Calgary has supported Green Calgary in our annual rain barrel sales, helping us get more rain barrels in the hands of Calgarians and promoting water conservation.
On April 1st, 2026, at 9am MST, Green Calgary will release rain barrels available for pre-sale on our online EcoStore (shop.greencalgary.org). When purchasing one of our pre-sale rain barrels online, you will be prompted to choose one of four sales locations and dates to pick up your rain barrel(s), which will be announced before April 1st, 2026. We do not offer delivery.
Applications open April 1, 2026 and will be accepted until Oct. 31, 2026, or until available funding is fully allocated. If funding is fully allocated before Oct. 31, 2026, program closing will be announced.
The rebate is $50 per eligible rain barrel.
A household is a dwelling that is comprised of a single person or multiple persons residing in a single unit. You may only apply for rebates at the single residence in which you reside.
Receipts must be dated within 12 months of the date you submit your rebate application.
Example: If you apply on April 1, 2026, your receipt must be dated April 1, 2025 or newer.
Yes. As long as your receipt is dated within 12 months of your application date, you can apply once applications open. Applications open April 1, 2026 and will be accepted until Oct. 31, 2026, or until available funding is fully allocated. If funding is fully allocated before Oct. 31, 2026, program closing will be announced.
Online orders are expected to be eligible if you can provide an itemized receipt/invoice and proof of delivery showing the delivery address, or proof of pickup. The rebate is intended for those who are in physical possession of their rain barrel at the time of applying. Therefore, proof of delivery or pickup is required, and order confirmation alone is not sufficient.
Contractor-supplied rain barrels are expected to be eligible if you can provide an itemized invoice that clearly identifies the rain barrel as a separate line item. If a contractor has purchased a rain barrel to provide installation/services, the contractor must provide the original receipt to the homeowner, or they must clearly indicate this on their own invoice/receipt, aligning with the proof of purchase criteria. The homeowner must be the one to submit the rebate application. The application information required from the rebate recipient remains the same.
As we expect a large volume of applications, please allow 4–6 weeks for Green Calgary to process and approve your application. Once approved, please allow another 4-6 weeks to receive your rebate payment.
Apply as soon as you can. The program can approve 3,500 rebates, on a first-come, first-serve basis, while funding lasts.
No. The rebate applies to the rain barrel storage container only. Accessories/add-ons are not eligible.
If you have a paper receipt from an in-store purchase, please write “Applied for City of Calgary rain barrel rebate” on the receipt before scanning/photographing it. Online orders do not need this note on the receipt.
Some fundraiser or pop-up sale events may not be able to provide standard proof of delivery/pickup. If this is the case, please contact products@greencalgary.org to discuss alternative proof of delivery/pickup document.
Applicants may choose to receive their rebate via cheque or e-transfer.
E-transfers will be administered by a third party payment processing software called Plooto.
After your rebate application is received and approved, you will receive detailed instructions on how to receive payment.
