Barrel YYC: Rain Barrel Sales

Building water-resilient communities.

Barrel YYC 2025

It's the Green Season! Join Green Calgary and thousands of Calgarians in

Green Calgary is once again helping Calgarians reduce water consumption and manage stormwater by providing rain barrels to community members. This year rain barrels are back under a new initiative called Barrel YYC.

New for 2025, Green Calgary is partnering with Goodwill Industries of Alberta to make rain barrels locally through the Goodwill @ Work program, combining Green Calgary’s 35 years of experience with rain barrels with Goodwill’s community workspace which provides training and employment opportunities to persons with disabilities and barriers to employment.

Though we prefer that rain barrels are purchased from local Calgary vendors, we understand that Calgarians may not have the option to purchase their barrels in person. We will be accepting receipts for online orders placed at vendors that have a physical Calgary storefront. However, those who place online orders will need to submit two documents:

1. ‎A photo or screenshot of their online receipt and;

2.

A photo of their barrel packaging (address label) or mail slip with matching information to the receipt

OR

A delivery confirmation from a postal service with matching information to the receipt.

For the past 30 years, Green Calgary's rain barrels were made by a local business, The Barrelman. As of last year, the demand for rain barrels has outpaced The Barrelman's capacity for production. It was decided this year (2025) that The Barrelman will concentrate on rain barrel production for rural communities in Southern Alberta, while Green Calgary will do our own production of rain barrels.

In 2024, Green Calgary's rain barrels included a built-in subsidy from the City of Calgary. However, Green Calgary's rain barrel production volume for 2025 will be lower as we navigate starting this new venture. Therefore, The City of Calgary will no longer be subsidizing the price of Green Calgary's rain barrels. Instead, all rain barrels purchased after March 31st, 2025 from any local Calgary vendor are eligible for a $50 rebate/barrel on up to two rain barrels per household starting April st, 2025 at 9am MST. This allows the City of Calgary to get more rain barrels into the hands of Calgarians at an affordable price, while Green Calgary can continue to make their own rain barrels as an ongoing fundraiser this year and for many more to come.
