Job Posting: Waste Diversion Program Coordinator

Since 1978 Green Calgary has been providing Calgarians the resources they need to live more sustainably. We are currently looking for a Waste Diversion Program Coordinator to support the organization’s workplace services and public engagement to ensure that Green Calgary can keep doing the amazing work we started over 40 years ago.This role is part of the Canada Summer Job Grant funding from the Government of Canada and subject to the provisions of that program, which can be found here. 

Workingwith the Green Workplace Specialist and other Green Calgary staff, the Waste Diversion Program Coordinator is responsible fordelivery of Green Calgarys products and services, as well as promotion and support of those services. Additionally, this role includes being the primary report writer and data analyst for the Green Workplace’s summer events. 

Your excellent organization and time management skills will help you keep to a busy schedule. Your curiosity, environmental knowledge, and research skills will help you to serve Green Calgary’s clients and support Green Calgary’s position as an industry leader in environmental knowledge and services. 

Position Duties / Responsibilities 

Program Delivery & Support (40%) 

  • Provide excellent customer service while assisting delivery of existing Green Calgary Environmental programs 
  • Assist in preparing, delivering, and coordinating waste audits, waste assessments, event greening operations, and other program needs for Green Calgary
  • Respond to inquiries from potential clients and the public through e-mail, phone, and media 

Analysis and Reporting (55%) 

  • Apply statistical analysis and data collection skills to provide reports to stakeholders 
  • Conduct presentations to internal and external stakeholders to deliver findings 

Business Development Support (5%) 

  • Research market trends 
  • Explore new opportunities to reach under-served audiences 
  • Represent Green Calgary at events 

Position Qualifications 

  • Post-secondary education in environmental sciences, or similar field
  • Zero to 1 years of experience in environmental consulting, research, report writing or similar field 
  • Thorough knowledge of environment and urban sustainability 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong computer skills, particularly MS Excel 

 

Additional Working Requirements

Able to lift up to 25 kg.  Current and valid driver’s license. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required. 

This is a full-time internship position that pays $23/hour for 30 hours a week over an 8-week period. Work schedule is flexible with some combination of work from home and office work.
