Hidden Gems of Calgary: Instagram Edition

Posted on August 19, 2019

The success of our Hidden Gems of Calgary blog last year was incredible and we are extremely excited to bring you Part 2: Instagram Edition. For this year’s version, we wanted to focus on spots that are Instagram-worthy and will be sure to create some envy among your feed! Some of these spots are located outside of Calgary, but all are within a one-hour drive, so getting there is doable within a small time frame. Because some of these places can only be accessed by vehicle, we encourage you to invite your friends, carpool together, and make a fun trip out of it! After all, you will need someone to take pictures with!

Reader Rock Garden

Reader Rock Garden is a great place to take pictures, hang out with friends, and enjoy the scenery. It is filled with tons of amazing flowers, stone pathways, and even a little café! Weddings, other events, and portrait sessions are constantly being booked here. If flowers are your thing, hit this place up!

Bowden Sun Maze

Another location for all the flower fanatics is Bowden SunMaze. Instead of your typical corn maze, this maze is made entirely out of sunflowers! Not only does it provide endless fields of these beautiful blossoms, but also a field of U-Pick vegetables, strawberries, and flowers, as well as some games. This place is fun for the whole family, or great for those who dream of walking through a flower field.

Griffith Woods Park

If you want a taste of the mountains without having to venture out too far of the city, this is your spot. Griffith Woods Park has everything a nature lover could dream of. It has hiking trails, a soccer field and basketball court, and has an extremely picturesque waterfront that will give your Instagram the Banff look without the mileage!

Barrier Lake

Another spot that allows you to be surrounded by mountains without too long of a trek is Barrier Lake. These majestic waters are an emerald blue that you can view from the lookout which can be reached by hiking, or you can explore them up-close on the beach. Here you will find many people sitting on the rocks tanning, playing with their children, or enjoying one of many water activities. Sometimes there is even a rental company for you to rent kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes!

Elbow Falls

If your looking for an easy-going nature-walk that is beautiful during all seasons, hit up Elbow Falls in Bragg Creek. This place is another short drive from Calgary with easy access! There are incredible waterfalls that would make the perfect backdrop for your next pic! The terrain around this area is generally flat with stairs and hand rails when elevation is required making it more widely accessible! If you decide to wander over here, bring a lunch and enjoy the amazing views at their picnic area and, if your up for it, there’s also a hike here as well!

These are only a few of the hidden gems that exist all around us. What other places do you know of? Share it with us on our social media accounts TwitterFacebook, and Instagram. We’d love to visit them!
