Green it Forward: The Art of Giving

Posted on November 25, 2024

The Christmas season is fast approaching and it brings a holiday filled with love and giving. It is an exciting time of the year where most people are thinking about how to make their family and friends feel loved.

I've always enjoyed this time of year because I get to show my appreciation for my friends and family through various forms of giving.

Did you know that giving to others benefits the giver just as much as the receiver?:

Promotes positive values: Giving strengthens positive relationships between individuals and creates a sense of community. Giving also has a domino effect as it inspires receivers to become givers themselves.

Improves overall mood: Making a positive impact in someone’s life ultimately makes us happier, equally or sometimes more than receiving.

Giving is a beautiful way to initiate a positive ripple effect in your social circle. I try to engage in small acts of kindness, whether it be paying for someone else’s coffee or donating to charities I believe have meaningful causes. This makes me feel more in-tune with myself and significantly improves my mood.

Importance of Giving to Environmental Causes

Donating to environmental causes not only helps accelerate the positive impact of change for the environment, but also raises awareness for the community.

Green Calgary is currently running a fundraising campaign Green It Forward to support environmental education for youth and adults. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the ongoing climate crisis, helping the current and future generations become more informed and engaged in addressing environmental challenges. By donating you can help them reach their $10,000 fundraising goal by December 31st.

Not only that, they help enhance water conservation efforts to tackle Calgary's increasing drought challenges by their very own rain barrel program. If you’re thinking about donating for a great cause, consider donating to Green Calgary!
