Day 1 of Enviro Week: Go Wild

Posted on June 5, 2016

It’s Environment week, and we have an eco challenge for you each day. We’re starting off with celebrating World Environment Day. United Nations deemed today WED to encourage environmental awareness worldwide. Focused on action, today is about doing something positive for the Earth. Each year has a theme and host country.

This year’s theme is “Go Wild for Life” drawing eyes to illegal wildlife trade that’s decreasing biodiversity and encouraging extinction and crime. Many species are struggling to remain on the planet including elephants, rhinos, tigers, gorillas and sea turtles. Angola is the country hosting the World Environment Day celebrations this year. They’re working to restore elephant herds and protect their rich wildlife. The country has a National Ivory Action Plan and are working to establish several conservation areas.

That’s why we’re challenging you to think about the wild today. We can help to reduce illegal wildlife trade by not purchasing wildlife products at home or when we travel abroad. And we can all play a part in the biodiversity of our planet by supporting the conservation of wildlife where we live.
