All the volunteer events and activities listed below are for registered Green Calgary volunteers. If you are not a registered volunteer and you are interested in any of the below opportunities, please email judi@greencalgary.org and you can volunteer with us too! We have ongoing registration for volunteers, so please reach out!

EVENT SUPPORT

Rain Barrel Sales: Saturdays, April 27 to June 22 - for all volunteers

Rain barrel sales are back in a big way and we need many volunteers to help us pull off Green Calgary's biggest fundraiser! Dates, locations, and shifts are below. These events tend to be lots of fun and you get to meet a whole bunch of like-minded folks! Training will be available for tasks onsite. Below are all the dates and locations and we’ll be looking for 4-6 volunteers per date. All the events run from 10am to 2pm, with volunteer shifts running at different times before and throughout the event.

Green Homes and Communities | Spill the Beans Program 

Spill the Beans is collaborating with Mount Royal University (MRU)'s Nourish U program to educate MRU students on cooking skills to better ensure food security and reduce food waste through in-person workshops. These sessions will include foundational knowledge of meal preparation and live cooking classes. Volunteers are needed to facilitate these in-person workshops.

Activities include set-up and take-down of event space(s), handing out info sheets and pamphlets, coordinating survey data collection, helping attendees sign in and fill out any necessary forms, and taking pictures of the event. 

If needed, volunteers will also lead workshop attendees in engagement and interactive learning activities throughout the sessions. You do not need previous cooking skills or knowledge of food security, or food waste to participate. Our program coordinators will provide any training or education necessary to complete needed tasks.

Green Workplace| Stampede Breakfast and ENMAX Linemen Rodeo

Green Workplace works with businesses, organizations and cooperations to make their operations more sustainable and reduce negative impacts on the environment. Green Calgary will be conducting waste management at two Stampede Breakfasts and the ENMAX Linemen Rodeo. 

Volunteers are needed for set up and take down, waste sorting and management throughout the events, and supporting any Green Calgary promotion or waste sorting education to event attendees as needed. 

If you are interested in diverting waste from landfills and reducing Calgary's carbon footprint, please contact crystal@greencalgary.org to volunteer for the events.

COMMUNICATIONS TEAM

Internal| Admin Support 

Volunteers are needed to support the communications team to market campaigns, grow social media platforms and engage with Green Calgary’s online community. Activities will include content creation such as social media posts, blog posts and more. It will also include supporting social media campaigns and initiatives by facilitating outreach activities, sharing content on your personal channels, and engaging with posted content.

Video and Audio Narration | Communication Support 

We need volunteers to provide narration for upcoming Green Calgary videos and also be filmed and included in video footage. We are open to those who hold video editing or content creation who have suggestion for the compliation of video content. If you are interested in providing your skills and expertise please email louise@greencalgary.org. 

 

When: This volunteer position is an on-going opportunity where volunteers can expect to contribute 2 - 5 hours per week depending on the initiative. For more information please contact louise@greencalgary.org 

 

FUNDRAISING AND COMMUNITY ACTION 

Fund Development Support| Rain Barrel Sales 

Raising funds is a priority and reality in the non-for-profit sector and Green Calgary needs volunteers to support fundraising initiatives and campaigns, and bring fresh ideas to inspire community members to give. 

Our biggest annual fundraiser is coming up! Starting on April 1st Green Calgary is hosting its annual rain barrel sales, and we will need volunteers to facilitate rain barrel sales. Responsibilities will include set up and take down of sale booths, moving rain barrels during set up, sales, and take down. Answering questions from potential buyers, and providing educational resources on rain barrels and water conservation as needed.

No previous knowledge or training is required to volunteer. Green Calgary program coordinators will provide any training necessary to set our volunteers up for success! 

Rain Barrel sales will take place throughout the spring and summer season in various locations around Calgary. For specific dates and locations please refer to our info page here

Community Action| City Clean Up

Volunteer with Green Calgary in the city's annual cleanup event, where thousands of registered volunteers collect garbage in every quadrant of the city. Each year volunteers help remove litter in Calgary’s parks, green spaces and along nearly 300 kilometres of pathways and river banks.
