About Green Calgary

Since 1978 Green Calgary has sought to address a range of pressing urban environmental issues including pollution, waste management and resource conservation. As the nature and understanding of these issues has evolved over the years, so has Green Calgary’s focus, programs and approach.

In addition to providing information and raising awareness, Green Calgary’s innovative programs provide speci!c tools and resources to help people make positive and lasting environmental changes.

Green Calgary programs are based on the principles of community based social marketing, an approach that emphasizes direct, personal contact among community members and the removal of barriers to change. Research con!rms that such approaches are most likely to bring about lasting behavioural change.

Green Calgary is well recognized for its progressive programs that are inclusive and non-judgemental. Key to this success are customized partnerships that realize common goals and a steady progress towards long term environmental, social and !nancial stability for all.

Green Calgary has more than 320 members, comprised of 184 individuals, 21 non-pro!t organizations and more than 115 businesses. Our 150 volunteers gave more than 1600 volunteer hours in 2009.

Healthy Homes Calgary
Healthy Homes is all about personalized advice and real change. Staff provide in-home consultation that is accessible and easy to understand. They provide hands-on resources and tools necessary to create positive and lasting change.

Green Workplace
The Green Workplace program assists companies to reduce their environmental impact associated with waste. Our staff offers the information, education, resources and tools necessary to divert waste from the land!ll and reach companies’ waste diversion goals.

Green Products
Green Calgary sells select products that are environmentally sustainable and help to reduce waste and conserve water. There are a variety of eco-friendly office supplies available and the opportunity to create a corporate account. Members receive a 10% discount.

Events and workshops
Green Calgary has provided education to thousands of Calgarians. Each year, we host dozens of environmental workshops for schools, business and community groups. In partnership with the City of Calgary, Green Calgary has helped to bring more than 10,000 Rain Barrels and thousands of composters to
yards across Calgary through its one-day rain barrel and composter sales.
