Vermicomposting Guide.

There are thousands of varieties of worms in existence. For home vermicomposting purposes, the most often recommended varieties are known generically as redworms, or red wrigglers. Individual species include Lumbricus rubellus and Eisenia foetida. Worms are delivered to the EcoStore every second Thursday.

Requirements for Vermicomposting

The four physical requirements for a home vermicomposting operation are:

  • a worm bin
  • bedding material (shredded newspaper)
  • a supply of worms
  • a supply of organic scraps
