Green Calgary has conducted the Annual Rain Barrel & Composter Sales as our primary fundraiser for the past nine years. We are a non-profit registered charity and Calgary’s leading urban environmental organization. All proceeds from the Annual Rain Barrel & Composter Sales go to support our programs that are dedicated to empowering Calgarians to create healthy homes, workplaces and communities.
For more than 30 years, Green Calgary has pursued the vision of greener yards, healthier homes and communities, and a sustainable city. Help make this vision a reality by purchasing a rain barrel and composter at one of Green Calgary’s Rain Barrel and Composter Community Sales in 2014!
About Rainwater HarvestingOpen or Close
By using rain barrels at home, you can help conserve water and save money! Rain barrels are low maintenance, easy to use and help divert water from storm drains that carry pollutants into our rivers. Water collected in rain barrels has a natural temperature that won’t shock plants, it is chlorine-free, and your garden and yard will love it. Capturing storm water at home also helps reduce the flow of water back to the Bow and Elbow rivers. This can reduce the flow of contaminants into the rivers and help protect against flooding. A considerable portion of the City of Calgary’s total electricity bill is spent on water treatment. Using a rain barrel means that less water needs to treated, cutting down on water waste and reducing demand on water treatment facilities, which in the end saves us all money.

About CompostingOpen or Close
Food and yard waste make up almost 60% of the garbage from our homes. In the landfill, organic materials create large amounts of a very powerful “greenhouse gas” - methane. With a composter from Green Calgary, you can easily do your part to reduce the amount of organic waste that goes into our landfills. Plus, using compost in your yard helps soil retain water, discourages weeds, and adds essential microorganisms. The result is a healthier, greener garden and yard with a reduced need for toxic chemicals.
