Calgary Horticultural Society - SPRING 2012 PLANT SHARE

The objective of the Plant Share is for Society members to share excess plant material with other members and provide information about plants, their cultures and habits. Plant advisors are on hand to answer questions.

The success
of the Plant Share depends on plants and participation. If you’ve never participated before, plan on attending this year.

You can still join in the fun, even if you don’t have plants to share:

Plants can be purchased for $2.00 ea - see full explanation of processes in the “How it Works” link below. Please remember, plants must be in good condition, plants that are not in good condition will not be accepted.

In addition to plant sharing, you can enjoy the on-site vendors, socialize over coffee and cookies, and share gardening knowledge with other enthusiastic gardeners!

REMEMBER - Be sure to carefully label all your plants (common name, mature height, colour) PRIOR to arriving, this helps speed up the check-in process. Also, please review Alberta’s Invasive Plant Council’s plant list.

Any plants brought that appear on this list will be turned away.

Run for Biodiversity! Help us Run WILD for Food and Farmers in 2012!

Are you a Runner or a Walker?

Are you looking for a way to have some healthy fun with family or friends, and make a contribution to a cause you believe in? Then, we may have just the right thing for you! We’re looking for runners and walkers to Run for Biodiversity in the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon, half marathon, 10 km, 5km or kids marathon.

  * All R4B-Calgary runners and walkers who commit to raising $100 will receive a specially-designed Run for Biodiversity T-shirt in appreciation for their fundraising efforts.
  * As a special thank you, the first 10 R4B-Calgary participants will be registered for free!

Where will Donations go?
All donations will go to support USC’s work in Nepal. Our R4B-Calgary goal is to raise $5,000 to support the community-based agricultural, biodiversity and environmental initiatives of our local partner, the Self-Help Initiatives Program (SHIP).

SHIP is working in extremely challenging conditions, helping farming families to survive and thrive in the remote Himalayan district of Humla, a 20-day’s walk to the nearest road!

Why Run for Biodiversity?

On May 22, USC Canada joins millions of people around the world in celebrating International Biodiversity Day. Biodiversity is all about food and farmers. It’s the earth’s life-support system, and nature’s brilliant insurance policy against disaster. If something fails, there’s a back-up plan: Biodiversity! Much is at stake for us all, and in a real sense, USC is helping farmers plant the Seeds of our very Survival

Thanks for Making a Difference!
Thanks to your generous support, USC Canada is able to help Nepalese farmers grow more food for their families, and to bring about lasting change in South Asia.

Please feel free let others know about this too. We’re hoping this year’s Run will have “legs!”
