Jane's Walk: Getting to Know Your Leafy Neighbours

Posted on May 2, 2016

Looking for a great way to celebrate #yyc neighbourhoods? Join us on a Jane’s walk! These are free, locally organized walking tours for people to explore neighbourhoods in their own city. There’s a leader, but everyone is encouraged to join in the conversation and share their unique perspectives and knowledge. The walks are inspired by Jane Jacobs (1916-2006), an urbanist and activist who wrote about innovative community-based approaches to city building.

Green Calgary’s Jill-Anne Spence (ISA Certified Arborist), will be leading a Getting to Know your Leafy Neighbors leisurely walk in Kensington on Sunday, May 8th at 10 am. Along the way, we’ll talk about the many benefits that trees provide our communities. We’ll also discuss common pest and tree diseases, improper pruning practices and the challenges of growing trees in limited soil space. Bring your tree questions with you.

Walk Route:
A.    10 am: meet @ intersection of Kensington Rd NW & 12 St NW
B.    11:30 am (-ish) end at Sunnyside Natural Market on 10th Street & 2 Ave NW

For those walkers who would like to stay an extra few minutes at the end of the walk, Sunnyside Natural Market will be providing an extra special treat - a refreshing Wild Sparkling Tea demo.
