Green Calgary is Calgary’s leading urban environmental organization and a dynamic social enterprise committed to empowering Calgarians to create healthy homes, workplaces and communities. Green Calgary is a non-profit, registered charitable organization that has been addressing a wide range of pressing urban environmental issues in our city since 1978. In addition to providing information and raising awareness, our organization strives to provide the specific tools and resources that empower individuals and groups to make positive environmental changes.

Green Calgary is seeking community leaders with a background in communication and  marketing to join our Board of Directors in 2017/18. The volunteer board provides leadership to Green Calgary in the areas of organizational direction, policy, strategic planning and fiduciary accountability. We aim to attract skilled and committed individuals to help Green Calgary fulfill its mandate. 

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be passionate about improving our communities  through reduction of environmental impact
  • Possess a track record of community leadership and active participation
  • Be independent of the City of Calgary Administration or Council
  • Possess skills and experience in the areas of:  Environmental issues (protection, education, management), Marketing/Media/Public Relations
  • Have prior board level experience with a non-profit organization 

The board meets once a month and each board member is asked to serve on at least one standing committee, which may include, but is not limited to: 

  • Finance 
  • Risk Management 
  • Nominating (i.e. Recruitment) 
  • Governance and Policy 

As an active strategic board, some reading and work outside of these meetings is often required. Directors are expected to make a two-year commitment. 

Applications are welcomed from everyone, including: women, Aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities, and members of visible minorities.  It is our aim to have a Board which reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.

Submissions will be accepted until October 20th, 2017. The Nominating committee will contact those applicants selected for an interview after this date.
